"MXF files not importing into Vegas Pro 12 Why? - I just bought a new Panasonic AJ-PX270 camera today. The camera creates .MXF files that Vegas Pro 12 will not recognize."
".mxf file not opening in Sony Vegas Pro 13. - I used Adobe Media Encoder to both rewrap and re-encode a ALC1-H.264 .mov file into .mxf, and it's not opening in Vegas. Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? I want to edit in .mxf to make my life easier, but, damn, this whole process (if you've been seeing my frequent posting on this forum in the past few days) is starting to become a chore, which I naturally expected. I was just told that .mxf will open in Vegas, and here I am, looking at a .mxf that won't open. "
MXF (Material eXchange Format) is a container format for professional digital video and audio media defined by a set of SMPTE standards. The video format is created specifically for HD digital camcorders like Canon C300, Canon XF100, Canon XF105, Sony XDCAM series and Panasonic P2 series. Although Sony claims Vegas Pro can work with MXF format, many folks are encounterring similar problems when they tried to import and open MXF files in Sony Vegas Pro (Vegas 13 included). To fix the problem, the realiable workaround we've found so far is to transcode MXF to a fully compatible format with Sony Vegas Pro. Along with some help from third-party programs, you can achieve your goal smoothly. This will help you import the file correctly and save the rendering time.
Below is the entire process to convert MXF to MPEG-2 for Sony Vegas Pro using EaseFab MXF Video Converter. By running it, there's no need to set the codec yourself: the program has optimized presets for Sony Vegas. With it, you can do batch conversion from MXF, MTS, AVCHD, MKV, MOV, AVI, and more to Sony Vegas compatible video format without quality loss.
Step 1: Install and launch the MXF to Sony Vegas converter. Click the Add button to import your MXF videos to the program. (Note: batch conversion is supported, so you can load more than one file to save time.)
Step 2: Select "Editing Software" - "Vegas/Premiere (MPEG-2)" from the format drop-down menu. The output video seamlessly fits Sony Vegas Pro 13/12/11/10, etc. and the original quality of MXF files will be kept. Besides, you can also choose "Vegas/Premiere (WMV)" if you want to get the MXF files converted with smaller size.
Step 3: Finally, click "Convert" button and your MXF files will be converted into MPEG-2 or WMV files ready to be imported into Sony Vegas Pro 13/12.
Note: While importing MXF clips into the program for conversion, please make sure you have the entire MXF file structure as it saved on your camcorder's P2 card. If you only have some loose .MXF clips, you files will have image only without audio. See MXF file structure on Panasonic's P2 card as below.
The above screenshot clearly shows .MXF clips are all saved in 'VIDEO' folder, while audio files are all stored in 'AUDIO' folder. When you importing .MXF clips from the correct file structure, EaseFab MXF to Sony Vegas Converter is able to recognize audio tracks from 'AUDIO' folder automatically, which ensures the generated files have both image and sound correctly.
